Mindful Japan Tours
I’m a Matsumoto-based guide and permanent resident of Japan. Nagano Prefecture has been my home for more than twenty years. I’ve been leading walking tours here since 2017, helping travelers connect more deeply with this part of Japan. I also strive to make sure tours are sustainable and beneficial for the practitioners and communities we partner with.
Some of my specialties include:
• Stepping back in time on Kiso’s historic Nakasendo Trail
• Encountering glimpses of the sacred on the Ontake Kodo Pilgrimage Trail
• Exploring the castle town of Matsumoto and the Zenkoji Kaido Way
• Discovering the Suwa region and its Onbashira Festival, one of Japan’s great celebrations
• Incorporating mindful experiences like shinrinyoku (forest bathing), takigyo (traditional waterfall purification), mindful walking, and meditation at historic temples into our journeys

Flexible collaboration
My tours bridge the traditional and the modern, placing the sights and landscapes we encounter along the way in a living context. Rather than a cookie-cutter approach, my services can be tailored to meet the needs of your organization and clients. They’ll leave with a fuller appreciation of the region’s traditions, how they remain relevant today, and our interconnectedness with the natural world.
I have extensive experience working with travel industry partners, governmental organizations, and international media. I’ve also consulted on government sponsored tourism projects in Nagano and Hokkaido, and have developed walking tours for clients in the Suwa and Kiso regions. Currently, I’m working on new tours in the Matsumoto area.
Whether you need an experienced regional guide, a person on the ground to help develop new travel products, or an expert to consult with on your latest Japan-related travel project, I’m here to help.
